Katotobwe bought ultimate insurance, witness says

A witness told the Lusaka Magistrate Court that Lusaka Businessman, Chanda Katotobwe and his wife, bought Ultimate Insurance Company.

Appearing before Magistrate Alice Walusiku, Maybin Silavwe, who is one of the previous owners of Ultimate Insurance Company, said the company was bought by Mr. Chanda Katotobwe and his wife, Felistus Chibamba.

Mr. Silavwe testified that as previous shareholders, they issued receipts in the name of Felistus Chibamba, for the payment of the K1.5m, which was the full purchase price of the company.

And Tobias Milambo, Nachi Musonda and Richard Lubemba have applied for bail.

The trio has hired a new lawyer, Mr. Osborne Ngoma following the withdrawal of legal services by their previous lawyers, Nchito and Nchito Advocates, and Chisuwo Hamwela.

Magistrate Walusiku referred Mutembo and Mchima Nchito together with Chisuwo Hamwela to the Law Association of Zambia Disciplinary Committee.

Magistrate Walusiku ruled that the previous defence lawyers  uttered forged documents in Court, and found that they abused the Court process, and engaged in forum shopping and used unethical mechanisms to delay a criminal trial.

Magistrate Walusiku will make a Ruling on the bail application by the trio when the matter comes up on October 13, 2020.

Meanwhile the Lusaka High Court Judge, Honourable Kazimbe Chenda will hear the case in which Mr. Chanda Katotobwe and his wife, Felistus Chibamba have sued Marshlands Company and the trio.

Katotobwe is demanding compensation and restitution for Ultimate Insurance which was illegally obtained by the trio facing criminal prosecution.
